Activities beyond Fonqueyrade

The Dordogne and Lot et Garonne regions have so many beautiful places to visit : chateaux, vineyards, ancient towns, villages and plenty of bustling markets all surrounded by stunning countryside.

The area is famous for the picturesque ‘Bastide’ or fortified towns many dating back to the 12th and 13th Century when the Aquitaine region was under English rule.

Foodies and wine lovers will be busy, the area produces gourmet delights such as foie gras, plums, prunes, and a variety of different wines.

There are plenty of vineyards to visit, special food markets, festivals and events running throughout the year celebrating this region’s special produce.

A day trip to St.Emilion and its famous vineyards is also a must.

For the more active there are tennis courts in nearby Villereal, plenty of perfect roads for cycling and jogging.

Kayaking on the Dordogne, golf, high wires and go-karting are also close by.

At Fonqueyrade we have a folder and drawer full of ideas, maps and brochures to help you explore and enjoy this beautiful part of South West France.
